Royal Palm takes control late against Central

Royal Palm Beach - Royal Palm Beach girls' basketball coach Anthony Dangerfield has a drill he uses in practice designed to handle situations late in close games.
It involves plenty of suicide sprints to build endurance and free-throw shooting to close out games.
It came in handy Thursday night as host Royal Palm Beach controlled the fourth quarter with tenacious defense, solid rebounding and clutch free-throw shooting to defeat Palm Beach Central 47-37 in a District 9-6A game.
The win for the Wildcats (8-2) pulled them even in the district standings with the Broncos (9-1). Both are 5-1 in district play.
"Once our nerves calmed down, we got back to playing our brand of basketball," Dangerfield said. "We played tough defense, got off good shots and made sure to get to the free-throw line."
Tied at 34 with less than four minutes to play, Ikeria Corbett came away with a steal and found senior guard Amber Ford ahead of the pack for a layup that gave them the lead for good.
The production for Royal Palm Beach came a little bit from everyone. Early on, it was the persistence of junior forward Patrice Collie to drive into the paint and score.
Midway through the game, it was Mariel Medina swishing three big 3-pointers. In the second half, Ford controlled the tempo at point guard and Latoya Harvin crashed the boards.
Ford and Medina shared the team lead in points with 11 while Collie added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Harvin had nine points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
Palm Beach Central senior guard Sharnell Brown had a game-high 17 points.
