The Punktuations
(December 4, 2008)
MP3: The Punktuations -- "I Don't Know"
From high school buddies to band mates, the Punktuations! got their start at West Boca High School three years ago.
The six-piece outfit plays a high-energy mix of punk and ska that keeps audiences on their feet, according to trumpeter Guillermo Ferrera.
He and his friends formed the Punktuations! as high school students. Ferrera, bassist Martin Pomereda and drummer Joe Giardino are now enrolled as sophomores at Florida Atlantic University.
Guitarist Andy McGrath attends West Boca High, where he's a senior. Lead singer Nick Sonara and trombonist David Albahae work day jobs while being on a self-described academic hiatus.
In between popping open textbooks and punching time clocks, the band hits stages around South Florida with their blend of bouncy beats and lyrics that take a humorous look at life.
"Our live shows are crazy," explained Ferrera. "We like to get the crowd into the music."
The band's been keeping busy promoting, playing and recording. Next up, Ferrera said a six-track EP is due out in early March.
The Punktuations! are booked Thursday at the West Boca Battle of the Bands, West Boca High School, 12811 Glades Road, Raton. For information, go to myspace.com/thepunktuations.
