TIPS TO AVOID LIGHTNING
- Plan outdoor activities in the morning, when thunderstorms and lightning are less likely.
- If you are outdoors and hear thunder or see lightning, immediately seek shelter indoors or in a vehicle - other than a convertible.
- Avoid elevated areas and open spaces, and stay clear of isolated trees.
- Get out of water, off a beach and out of small boats.
- Get off the golf course or the lawnmower.
- If indoors, stay off corded phones. Stay clear of windows, electrical devices and plumbing fixtures.
- Remember: If you can hear thunder, you are within striking distance of lightning.
