Ortega should pay for election misdeeds
November 20, 2008
When they are good, headlines are supposed to tell the story in a handful of words. When done well, it is a thing of beauty.

Different South Florida views on Cuba will get an ear from the next U.S. administration
November 13, 2008

Fight for freedom repeats itself today
November 6, 2008
The story written by Cristiana Chamorro Barrios about her brother, Carlos Fernando Chamorro, and his struggles with Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, and his increasing efforts to consolidate himself in power, made me think of a book I read 50 years ago.

Guillermo Martinez: Obama victory could result in isolationism from Latin America
October 30, 2008
Many Latin Americans — we might even say an overwhelming majority — will respond positively to the election of Democrat Barack Obama as president of the United States. They don't like George W. Bush. They hate the war in Iraq and blame the Republican administration for everything going wrong in the United States, Latin America and all over the world.

There was also a passing reference to hemispheric relations in the first presidential debate between Obama and his Republican rival, Sen. John McCain.

Hispanic voters just might decide presidential race
August 28, 2008
Picking Denver as the site for this year's Democratic National Convention was a wise choice, one that might help Sen. Barack Obama win the presidential election.
